the Governor of this bolony, inasmuch
the brown Sands
at his disposal for
are
йо
by the Charter placed
of the brown
the use of
benefit of the bolony.. For-
and
Imperial or charitable purposes the~ Governor is authorised to
grant
Lands
free of rent, se long as the object for which the grant is made be observed).
The Naval Premises in this leolony
are miW
and
held under Lease free of rent, but it wild be manifestly unjust improper to authorise the Lords of the Admiralty to dispose of
Land so granted, as contemplated in the clance to which-
I have
referred, thereby creating a tenire different from that of all other brown
Sands, and
practically placing in the
hands of an Imperial Department an
power which by the charter of the leolony
is
given
to the Governor alone.
Should circumstances render it desirable
offer
to abandon the Naval Premises and
them for sale, the Same itself must revert to the bolony, be subject to the
regular rental of its class, and sold at Public Auction, the value of the buildings
and
improvements thereon being recouped to the admiralty, so as to enable the Colony
to reap advantages from the position of the Jana such as it world,
world, have the
grant
never been made for a specific Imperial
fum pose.
I have to.
(Digno) Chas St. Ger. Cleverly
Surveyor General.
